• Take Inventory

Whether you have a dorm room full of things or a large family home, taking inventory is a very important part of moving. When you take the time to label boxes so that you know what is tucked away inside of them, it will make loading the truck and unpacking at the new home much easier to do when the time comes.

 

• Check the Utilities

You need to contact the new utility companies at least 2-4 weeks ahead of the planned moving date. This will ensure that you have plenty of time to take care of paying deposits and scheduling services to be turned on in time for your arrival. You also need to take care of cancelling your current services and making sure that all of your final bills can be mailed to the new address so you will receive them in a timely manner to pay them quickly.

 

• Pack an Overnight Bag

When you make a move, the last thing you may want to do when you arrive at the new home is going to be unpacking box after box to locate sleep wear, toiletries and even the coffee maker for the first morning in the new home. Packing a small box to hold your pj’s and toothbrush and shower supplies will help you find a little comfort the first night at home. You may also want to pack a small coffee pot and some single serving coffee packs to help wake you up the next money to get you started with unpacking and settling in the new home.
